Congressman Tulsi Gabbard has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs calling on the US President to launch a process to remove Turkey from NATO.
The resolution strongly condemns the Turkish attacks on US forces, allies and partners, and demands Turkey to stop supporting terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, ISIS, and other organizations. The resolution calls on the President to work with NATO to begin the process of removing Turkey from NATO.
The resolution also states that Turkey is involved in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, has previously provided political assistance to Azerbaijan, and today provides direct military assistance. It also mentions that Turkey keeps the border with Armenia closed, a country that has friendly relations with the United States. Turkey has repeatedly threatened Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenians living in different parts of the world.
The resolution also mentions that Turkey has reportedly sent Syrian mercenaries against Nagorno-Karabakh, many of whom are linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS. It is mentioned that Turkish F-16s are involved in the battles, which are used against both Nagorno Karabakh and the Republic of Armenia.
The resolution states that NATO has called for an immediate ceasefire, while Turkey opposes NATO’s position by publicly supporting Azerbaijan’s continued aggression. It is also mentioned that Turkey used the S-400 air defense system against US-made F-16 fighter jets.
